LOS ANGELES - Jeffer Mangels Butler & Marmaro LLP (JMBM) partner and founding member Marc Marmaro has been appointed to the Los Angeles County Superior Court, it was announced June 30 by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Since the firm's inception in 1981, Marmaro has served as the co-chairman, along with Bob Mangels, of JMBM's Litigation Department, developing the practice group to its current bench of 42 active litigators.
No stranger to a court room, Marmaro has tried numerous cases to verdict and judgment throughout his career. He and partner Stan Gibson led a team of lawyers in securing a jury verdict of $570 million (including $400 million in punitive damages) and negotiating a subsequent settlement that resulted in a total payout of $1.35 billion to JMBM's client. The dispute over contract claims and patent rights involving spinal fusion technology involved more than 20 different claims between the parties.
Marmaro received a J.D. cum laude, Order of the Coif, from New York University School of Law in 1972 and a B.A. from George Washington University in 1969. He is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.
He will remain at the firm until he is sworn in.
