Crowe Horwath LLP recently surveyed municipal and county tax assessors from across the country to gather their insights on the current environment for property taxes. The results indicate that there are still opportunities for taxpayers.
For example, 57 percent of the assessors have seen no change or a drop in the number of property tax appeals - including 72 percent of the respondents from the West region where property values have fallen dramatically in recent years. Businesses either might be unaware of the opportunity to reduce their taxes through appeal or mistakenly believe the savings aren't worth pursuing...
