Bus Driver Lied About Injury Incurred In Gym (CA) – Daniel Sifuentez, a bus driver with the Metropolitan Transit District, has pled guilty to workers’ compensation fraud. Sifuentez injured his back while working out in a gm, but three days after the injury, he filed a workers’ compensation claim, alleging that he had actually injured himself while at work. He told his coworkers that he disliked the transit authority and that he was going to get even with his employer.   Read more

Undercover Operation Defeats Chiropractor’s Fraudulent Billing Scheme (OH) – Tariq Arif, a chiropractor who operates the Back and Pain Rehab Center, has pled guilty to one count of misdemeanor workers’ compensation fraud. In a sting operation in which investigators pretended to be injured workers, Arif was found to be creating false treatment records and billing for medical treatment that he did not provide to the investigators.   Read more

Landscaping Employee Double-Dipped By Using False Identity For Second Job (MA) – Paulo DaSilva has been indicted on charges of workers’ compensation fraud and larceny over $250. DaSilva suffered a work related injury while working for a landscaping company and began collecting total temporary disability benefits from the company’s insurer. While collecting those benefits, DaSilva allegedly applied for another landscaping job with a different company using an assumed identity and began working. During the time of this employment, DaSilva underwent an Independent Medical Examination to confirm that his injury was work related and incapacitating, and at the examination DaSilva claimed to be unable to work while he was allegedly working fulltime.   Read more
