Lawyers Applaud AI Tool for Enhanced Research Capabilities

Lawyers across New Zealand, Australia and Singapore have been given an exclusive look at the next generation of legal AI tools, powered by LexisNexis® - and the results are already game-changing.

One of Lexis+® early users is Alex Collie, senior associate at Carroll & O’Dea. He says that while the platform no doubt improves efficiency, it’s about much more than just the hours saved.

“The mark of a good product is not necessarily that it saves time, but rather that it improves results,” Collie says.

Lane Neave Lawyers law clerk George Brougham is already familiar with the LexisNexis suite of products, having used Lexis Advance frequently throughout his law studies. He notes that Lexis+’s Leading Cases feature has been particularly useful in his research, and has allowed the process to be a lot quicker and more focused.

Exciting Update for
Family Law Professionals!

We are thrilled to announce a new format for the Family Law Service under the Care of Children Act 2004.

Each section of the Act now comes with detailed annotated commentary to enhance your understanding and application of the law.

For instance, section 46R, which addresses disputes between guardians, now contains 60 pages of commentary on this section and is now more accessible and practical.

🔍 What’s New?

- The text of each section is followed by comprehensive commentary on each subsection.

- Different types of parental disputes are now categorised under specific subheadings. For example, disputes over medical treatments, including vaccinations, fall under COCA46R.04.

Case note: Possession of home and trusts — Lindsay v Lamb

Is it going too far to say that the complications caused by trusts are the most intransigent in relationship property disputes? The law on this is an inconsistent patchwork of legislation and case law. It is a mess in urgent need of reform.

The new Minister of Justice could gain kudos by picking up the issue and dealing with it ahead of a full-scale reform of the Property (Relationships) Act 1976 (PRA). The fulsome report by the Law Commission in 2019 will take a long time to address, but the trust issues can still form a neat package on their own ahead of a clean sweep. The Law Commission has provided the road map for this, and I hunch that it would get cross-party support.
