AI and Law 2025 | Use and Perception among Aotearoa New Zealand Lawyers

Artificial intelligence is already in use in many law practices, but many law professionals are still unsure how to use it safely, ethically, and effectively.

The Law Society partnering with LexisNexis to support legal professionals

In March-April 2025 the Law Society, in partnership with LexisNexis, conducted a survey of law practitioners to get a snapshot of how AI is being perceived and used by lawyers in New Zealand.

This was the first survey of its kind to look solely at New Zealand practitioners. The survey was anonymous. Respondents were representative of lawyers from across the profession in New Zealand.

The Law Society, in partnership with LexisNexis, will be releasing the findings from our AI and the Legal Profession survey conducted in March-April this year.

New leaders seek to modernise the Criminal Bar Association, one podcast and tech fix at a time

In a profession built on tradition and where the human stakes are very high, even small changes can echo loudly.

Their vision goes beyond surface-level fixes to making the association more appealing to younger lawyers, helping streamline the daily challenges of criminal practice, and tackling the glaring technology gaps that continue to slow New Zealand's courts.
