Biography:
Brian graduated with an LLB from the University of Sydney, was admitted as a solicitor in 1977, and practised as a litigation solicitor in the western suburbs of Sydney for some 5 years.
In 1982, Brian was admitted to the NSW Bar. In the following 41 years he has practised in a wide range of jurisdictions, including criminal, personal injury, commercial, equity and probate jurisdictions, coronial inquiries and the Wood Royal Commission.
Brian joined the late Derek Cassidy QC in 2016 to co-author “Australian Tenancy Law and Practice” published by Lexis Nexis. Brian has continued to author that publication since Derek’s death in 2022 as well as his input with Practical Guidance.
In addition to his legal pursuits, Brian is a songwriter and musician and has, to date, released three CDs and 4 Eps of his original compositions. He has won a number of awards as a songwriter, and a band, “Brian Ralston’s Self Tort”, which he put together, won the 2013 Sydney final of “Exhumed”, a competition arranged by James Valentine of 702 ABC to find “the best bands you’ve never heard of”. In October, 2016 Brian was also a finalist in two categories of the Australian Independent Music Awards.
