Biography:
His Honour was admitted as a barrister in 1986 and worked as a Crown prosecutor with the Commonwealth DPP. His time there included a 12 month secondment to the ACT DPP. He moved to the Queensland DPP in 1991 and was a Senior Crown prosecutor when he joined the Private Bar in 1995. His first defence brief was as junior Counsel in the trial of R v Ivan Milat.
He took silk in 2004. In addition to his trial and appellate practice he appeared as Senior Counsel Assisting in the Queensland Floods Commission of Inquiry and the Royal Commission into the Protection and Detention of Children in the Northern Territory. At the time of his appointment in 2020 he was Chair of the Criminal Law Committee of the Australian Bar Association.
