    Jo is well experienced in working on both sides of the spectrum, working with both founders and private capital, and has a pragmatic and commercial approach in finding solutions for her clients. She also has extensive experience helping boards navigate regulatory environments, corporate governance and disclosure obligations for listed companies.

    Jo has experience working with clients undertaking Energy M&A, particularly in renewable energy.     Annette Hughes is a Commercial Litigation partner at Corrs Chambers Westgarth, where she leads the firm's national Product Liability Practice Group.     Biography:

    Michael’s undergraduate degree was in industrial chemistry. He then studied for his PhD, in which he conducted research in the field of free radical polymerization, and polymer chemistry generally.

    Prior to joining Shelston IP, Michael worked for Dulux in its resin technology laboratories while simultaneously completing a Graduate Certificate in surface coatings technology. Michael has also worked at the James Hardie research and product development laboratories, where he conducted research into fibre cement composites and building products. Michael’s industrial experience also extends to polymer extrusion techniques and injection moulding.

    Michael has drafted and prosecuted patent applications in diverse fields of technology. For example, in the fields of: welding, polymer composites, surface coatings, electrothermic coatings, polymerisation catalysts, systems for nucleic acid amplification, biocompatible materials, optical input devices, cementitious materials, building products, medical devices, and mining methods Michael is a Chartered Chemist of the Royal Australia Chemical Institute, and won the RACI Treloar Prize for his PhD research. In London, Fiona worked as in-house commercial legal counsel at the non-departmental government body The Single Source Regulations Office, the multinational jeweller Swarovski and the global news publisher The Guardian.     Melissa is a Partner in the Tech + IP group of Gilbert + Tobin. She has spent the majority of her career at Gilbert + Tobin working in technology law, however, she also spent a long stint at Linklaters in London working as a Managing Associate.

    Melissa is a data and privacy specialist who dedicates a significant part of her practice to regularly advising clients on privacy and data protection compliance obligations and to considering how clients’ use of technology and data, and the commercialisation of data, may be structured to meet their legislative requirements and also the best contractual outcome.

    Melissa’s privacy and data experience includes:

    • assisting organisations in assessing and complying with their privacy obligations, particularly businesses in highly regulated industries such as financial services, healthcare and telecommunications, or businesses undertaking new and innovative structures to capitalise on their data assets. This includes advising on federal, state and health records legislation;
    • advising on commercialisation of data and privacy-related issues in a transactional context. Such transactions include cloud computing and other offshoring arrangements, data sharing and analytics licensing arrangements, M&A, insolvencies and complex transactions generally; and
