Gulf News, 2 June 2026: The Abu Dhabi Real Estate Centre (ADREC) has announced the suspension of all rent increases on tenancy contracts, covering both new agreements and renewals, until further notice.
Under the new directive, landlords must maintain the approved rental value stated in the previous contract, meaning tenants cannot be charged higher rent when renewing leases. The rule applies across residential and commercial properties, ensuring that the rent in the last contract remains the benchmark until ADREC issues further guidance.
Officials explained that the suspension is designed to provide financial certainty for residents and businesses, particularly as rent is one of the largest monthly expenses in Abu Dhabi. Families renewing leases will benefit from stable housing costs, while small and medium‑sized enterprises renting offices or shops can plan budgets without unexpected increases.
Landlords and property management companies are required to comply with the directive, continuing to use the current approved rental value. The measure also reduces the likelihood of disputes over rent hikes during contract renewals.
ADREC confirmed that the suspension is temporary and will remain in place until market conditions, housing demand, and rental trends are reassessed.
