Oman Observer, 13 July 2026: The Ministry of Labour has issued a ministerial regulation updating rules for trade unions, clarifying their establishment, governance and member protections.
Published in July 2026, the regulation sets out procedures for forming and registering trade unions, sectoral general unions and the General Federation of Oman Workers. It provides continuity by allowing existing unions and boards to complete their legal terms, while introducing clearer rules for preparatory and founding committees and the election of administrative boards.
A new Legal Protection Committee will examine alleged violations involving union members, boards and worker representatives, reinforcing safeguards for those engaged in union activity. The regulation also establishes mechanisms for workplace release, allowing union members to attend meetings, training or official summons while balancing employer operational needs.
