Al Watan, 10 June 2026: The General Tax Authority confirmed that the tax residency certificate is a key legal document enabling individuals and companies to benefit from Qatar’s double taxation agreements.
Yusuf Abdullah Al‑Dosari, Director of Agreements and International Cooperation, explained that the certificate applies to citizens, residents, and companies engaged in cross‑border investments or commercial activities. Holders can leverage Qatar’s network of over 90 double taxation treaties to reduce or exempt taxes on foreign income, deposits, or shares.
For companies headquartered in Qatar, the certificate provides access to tax exemptions and reductions when operating in treaty partner states, enhancing competitiveness abroad. It also serves residents working internationally, where foreign authorities may require proof of tax residency to avoid double taxation on salaries or income.
The authority has streamlined issuance procedures via the Dhareeba platform, ensuring faster processing and case‑by‑case evaluation under principles of fairness and transparency.
