The Peninsula, 8 September 2026: Qatar has introduced new rules under the Wage Protection System (WPS), requiring employers to transfer salaries within seven days of the due date, with wages officially due on the first day of each calendar month.
The Ministry of Labour announced the amendments through Qatar Ministerial Decision No. 50/2026, published in the Official Gazette. The decision modifies earlier provisions from 2015 and takes immediate effect.
Under the new framework, monthly and annual wage workers must have their salaries deposited into accounts at Qatari financial institutions within seven days of the due date. For other categories of workers, wages are due every two weeks and must also be transferred through the WPS.
Authorities stressed that the changes aim to strengthen compliance, protect workers’ rights, and ensure timely wage payments. Employers failing to meet the deadlines risk administrative sanctions, including fines or suspension of services.
