Saudi Gazette, 24 July 2026: Saudi Arabia has enacted a new General Education Law under royal decree, establishing a comprehensive framework to strengthen governance, improve educational outcomes and align the sector with Vision 2030 objectives.
Minister of Education Yousef Al‑Benyan welcomed the approval by King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, describing the law as a milestone in advancing general education and enhancing regulatory and operational efficiency.
The legislation defines the roles of the Ministry of Education, the General Education Affairs Council and other entities to improve policy coordination, oversight and decision‑making. It also sets a framework for private and nonprofit sector participation, encouraging investment, partnerships and service quality improvements.
Key provisions emphasise the protection of the right to education, safeguarding the rights of students and teachers, and promoting safe learning environments. Families are recognised as essential partners in supporting students’ educational journeys.
The law strengthens early childhood education, expands support for students with disabilities, and introduces programmes to nurture gifted students. It also covers education stages, institutions, academic pathways, e‑learning, continuing education and the rights and responsibilities of students and teachers.
