Sharjah: Sheikh Sultan Amends Museums Authority Law

Al Khaleej, 7 July 2026: His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi has issued a decree amending Sharjah Law No. 7/2020 regulating the Sharjah Museums Authority, appointing Sheikha Hoor bint Sultan Al Qasimi as Chair.

The amendment provides that the Authority shall be headed by a Chair appointed by Amiri decree, supported by a Director‑General also appointed by decree. The Director‑General is granted broad powers to manage the Authority’s affairs, assisted by sufficient staff and experts under its organisational structure.

Key responsibilities of the Director‑General include proposing the Authority’s general policy and strategy, drafting laws and executive regulations related to its work, supervising operations in line with applicable legislation, and preparing the annual budget and final accounts. The Director‑General may also form permanent and temporary committees, represent the Authority before government and private entities, sign contracts and agreements with approval, and seek administrative and technical support from government bodies or external experts.

The decree emphasises that the Director‑General may delegate powers to staff as permitted under Sharjah’s legislation and must carry out any additional tasks assigned by the Chair. The changes aim to strengthen governance, clarify responsibilities, and enhance the Authority’s ability to achieve its cultural and institutional objectives.
