UAE: Ministry Clarifies Rules on Employment Contract Amendments

Al Khaleej, 6 July 2026: The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) confirmed that amendments to employment contracts are subject to Federal Decree‑Law No. 33/2021 on Regulation of Labour Relations, ensuring protection of both employee and employer rights.

MoHRE stated via its official X account that establishments may request the “Amend Work Permit and Contract” service through the ministry’s website or smart application to formally document any changes to contract terms.

The ministry emphasised that employers cannot alter contract provisions — including salary, job title, or nature of work — without the employee’s explicit written consent and in accordance with approved procedures. It further clarified that any condition or agreement contravening Federal Decree‑Law No. 33/2021 is void if it reduces the minimum rights guaranteed to workers, unless the change is more beneficial to the employee.
