Three times LexisNexis®︎ saved the day in Hollywood

From journalism and politics to finance, education and business analysis, Nexis® is a trusted data and insights partner for industries of all shapes and sizes. And given just how popular our suite of data-driven tools is, it’s no wonder that many of our products have been featured in an array of TV shows and films—often helping the protagonists to find valuable information that solves a case, cracks open a news story or provides the business intelligence that seals an important deal.

It’s true: LexisNexis® is somewhat of a pop culture icon. You shouldn’t be surprised—after all, as political dramas and series about investigative journalism continue to dominate streaming platforms, it only makes sense that the main characters have access to a powerful research solution that helps them find the answers they’re looking for.

Check out some of our favorite mentions of LexisNexis in popular media below. (No autographs, please.)

Little Fires Everywhere (2020)

When Little Fires Everywhere main character Elena Richardson (played by Reese Witherspoon) starts having suspicions about her tenant Mia Warren, she enlists the help of an old colleague at The New York Times to do some digging…with the help of LexisNexis®, of course.

Nexis® Solutions has long been an essential resource for media outlets, providing journalists with quick and easy access to news archives that go back more than 45 years. By searching through decades-old media coverage from local papers, Elena’s colleague was able to track down the obituary of Mia’s brother—and unearth critical insight into Mia’s true identity.

The West Wing (1999)

Political communications professionals need to know a little about a lot—and in the Emmy-winning political series The West Wing, LexisNexis® helps the White House communications team fill in the gaps.  In season three, White House press secretary C.J. Cregg (played by Allison Janney) uses the platform to gather background information about a newly appointed special prosecutor ahead of her daily press briefing. She also uses info gleaned from LexisNexis® to educate staff about the key points of the National Fire Plan (which “is based on recommendations from five Federal Agencies and clearly states that 80 years of fire suppression hasn't worked”).

Putting out communications fires, however—that’s where Nexis® comes in handy.

Alaska Daily (2022)

Truth, accuracy and objectivity are the cornerstones of modern journalism, which means that any skilled reporter understands the importance of thorough reporting and rigorous fact-checking.

It comes as no surprise, then, that Nexis® products have made a few cameos in ABC’s recently released investigative journalism drama Alaska Daily. As the protagonists investigate several cases of missing and murdered Indigenous women in the state of Alaska, journalists Eileen Fitzgerald (Hilary Swank) and Roz Friendly (Grace Dove) use the Nexis® platform to uncover new leads and track down a person of interest in one particularly puzzling case.

Put your research in the spotlight

While the shows above may be fictional, Nexis® isn’t! And, you don’t have to be a suspicious landlord, White House press secretary or lead investigative journalist on TV to use it.

Nexis® has professionals in need of game-changing data and analytics tools to manage and use information more productively for decades.
