ACA Health Plan Enrollments Down
ACA Health Insurance Enrollments Down by More Than 800,000
About 830,000 fewer Americans have signed up for Affordable Care Act health insurance plans than last year, according to data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid. As of Jan. 3, about 22.8 million people had registered for individual market health insurance coverage since the start of the 2026 ACA marketplace open enrollment period on November 1, 2025. About 23.6 million people had registered for such coverage at this same time last year. The Urban Institute projected in September of last year that 4.8 million fewer people would be insured in 2026, if Congress allowed tax credits that have made ACA premiums more affordable to expire at the end of 2025.
