Colorado Employment Verification Form Mirrors Federal I-9

"Does your business hire employees in Colorado?  As part of the hiring process, you are likely aware that employers must complete the federal Form I-9 for new employees and examine documents establishing their identity and authorization to work in the United States.  However, you may be less aware that Colorado employers must also complete a separate form affirming employment verification at the time of hire.  This form has recently been updated, so whether employers have been diligently completing the form or have never heard of it, they should ensure that they are now using the revised version for all new hires going forward.  Given the federal Form I-9 requirements, this state-level employment verification process may seem redundant.  Nevertheless, it is mandated by the Colorado Employment Verification Law (C.R.S Section 8-2-122). ... The current version of the form and additional information about the law’s requirements can be found at www.colorado.gov/cdle/evr.  The Colorado Division of Labor enforces compliance with the Colorado Employment Verification Law.  Penalties for non-compliance can be up to $5,000 for the first offense and $25,000 for the second and any subsequent offenses." - Christopher Dinkel, Oct. 7 2014.
