IJJ Senior Fellow Martha Mendoza (Associated Press) Wins Freedom of Information Award

"IJJ Senior Fellow Martha Mendoza has won the 27th annual Brechner Center’s Freedom of Information Award for her work in testing the public’s right-to-information in 100 countries.  In its announcement, the Brechner Center cited Mendoza’s national award-winning series, Access Denied.”  Mendoza spearheaded the Associated Press series, which sent 120 reporters around the world.  Their reporting showed that more than half of the countries that passed new freedom of information laws in the past decade ignored them.  Among the least responsive to the citizens’ questions was the United States." - IJJ, Mar. 27, 2013.
