Anticipating Regulatory Changes in the Aftermath of the Silicon Valley Bank Failure
The failure of three U.S. banks in the first half of 2023, coupled with the scrutiny in the banking sector, has prompted debate in Washington, D.C. about the need for increased supervision and regulation of banks. Some proponents call for strict standards as contemplated under the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010 (the Dodd-Frank Act). While others support the rollbacks to the Dodd-Frank Act in 2018 through 2019. This article, written by Eric S. Yoon, of K&L Gates LLP, explores in fine detail the bank regulations set forth under Dodd-Frank Act, rollback legislation, and proposed regulation.
