- California: California amends its Labor Code to create a rebuttable presumption of retaliation if an employer engages in any adverse action within 90 days of an employee's protected activity. The civil penalty for an employer violation is changed to $10,000 per employee for each violation. See 2023 Cal SB 497.
- California: California enacts statewide minimum wage schedules for covered health care employees, including hourly and salaried employees and independent contractors. Employees are also provided with a private right of action for employer violations. See 2023 Cal SB 525.
- Massachusetts: Massachusetts amends its Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) law to allow employees to supplement their weekly PFML wage replacement benefits with any available accrued paid leave (sick time, vacation, PTO, etc.). The law also changes the contribution rate on eligible employee wages to .88% and increases the maximum weekly benefit to $1,149.90.
