- California:California amends its labor law to increase the amount of paid sick days provided to eligible employees from three days (24 hours) to five days (40 hours). The amount of paid sick leave that employees may accrue and carry over from one year to the next is increased from 48 hours to 80 hours. See 2023 Cal SB 616.
- California: California enacts a labor law requiring employers to implement a workplace violence prevention plan, record each incident in a log, provide training to employees, and retain training and incident records. See 2023 Cal SB 553.
- New York: New York enacts a labor law that makes employee invention assignment provisions nonapplicable to inventions developed by the employee on their own time without the use of employer resources or trade secret information. See 2023 N.Y. SB 5640.
- New York City: New York City amends its Earned Safe and Sick Time Act (ESSTA) regulations to include guidance on calculating employer size, telecommuters and hybrid employees, requesting documentation from employees, reporting available leave and used leave, advance notification from employees, and calculating an employee's rate of pay. See Notice of Adoption to amend rules related to the Earned Safe and Sick Time Act.
