End-of-Year Housekeeping for Cafeteria Plan COVID-19 Relief Provisions
Time is running out to update plan documents governing cafeteria plans (as well as stand-alone health flexible spending arrangements (health FSAs) and dependent care assistance programs) for those plan sponsors that opted to loosen restrictions on account rollovers, mid-year elections, and other rules pursuant to pandemic relief. Employers who took advantage of the relief measures have until December 31, 2021, to incorporate any operational changes into their written plan documents to avoid putting the pre-tax benefits offered under the plan at risk.
