Bar Association Leaders join LexisNexis to Promote
Groups Help Pro Bono Program Solicit Volunteers, Donations August 7, 2007 — New York, NY, August 8, 2007 –LexisNexis, the National Association of Bar Executives (NABE), the National Conference of Bar Presidents (NCBP), and the National Conference of Bar Foundations (NCBF) have joined together to make a contribution to a pro bono program that provides an important service to police officers and firefighters. Working with the LexisNexis® Cares program, the three organizations have made community service a part of their annual meeting for the past three years. At the Annual Meeting of the American Bar Association (ABA) in San Francisco, NABE, NCBP, NCBF, and LexisNexis will be supporting the Wills For Heroes® Foundation by recruiting volunteers from the groups’ attorney members and by soliciting donations.
The Wills For Heroes Foundation provides free estate planning documents to first responders with the pro bono help of local attorneys. Founded by an attorney who was inspired by the tragic events of September 11, 2001, Wills For Heroes has provided thousands of free wills to police and fire personnel in several states.
“Once again, LexisNexis has been the leader in a project through which attorneys, who want to help, can pull their efforts together and have a significant public service impact—something they could not have done individually. This project continues a long tradition of valuable service to the profession by LexisNexis,” said Allan Head, president of NABE. “NABE is proud to be a partner in this effort.”
“NCBF is pleased to support the Wills For Heroes program, which is a great example of what bar foundations are all about: lawyers using their unique skills to give back to the community,” said Bob Glaves, NCBF president.
Steven Sorenson, president of the NCBP, said, “NCBP is happy to be a part of this effort to bring Wills for Heroes to the attention of bar association leaders nationwide.”
In addition to providing support at the ABA Annual Meeting, LexisNexis has donated its award-winning HotDocs® document automation software to the Wills For Heroes programs.
“Our community service partnership with the leaders of bar associations and foundations has been very rewarding for all participants,” said Dianne Callahan, director, National Associations for LexisNexis. “We are pleased this year to support an organization like Wills For Heroes that provides a critical service for first responders while involving attorneys in their communities.”
At the ABA Annual Meeting, the Wills For Heroes Foundation will launch a national program that will involve bar associations across the country.
“The people who put their lives on the line every day to ensure our safety are the least protected when it comes to estate planning. With the help of volunteer attorneys, we are working to build peace of mind one firehouse and police station at a time,” said Jeff Jacobson, co-founder of the Wills For Heroes Foundation. “We are humbled that the leadership of these bar associations have decided to put their considerable support behind our program.”
