Analyst report evaluates professional online network for customers of Accurint® for Law Enforcement

July 29, 2010 — New York, NY– LexisNexis® Risk Solutions today announced that Gartner, Inc., the world's leading information technology research and advisory company, recently published a research note called “Highlights from the LexisNexis® Advanced Government Solutions Conference for Government and Law Enforcement.” This note discusses the new social network for law enforcement customers, called the LexisNexis® Investigators Network.

The LexisNexis Investigators Network provides a secure, private environment for Accurint® for Law Enforcement customers.  Through the professional online network, sworn officers and cleared civilian agency personnel across the country can connect with each other to share experiences, access tools, submit ASAP requests, and gather insights from fellow law enforcement peers and subject matter experts to help develop leads to solve cases faster. Customers can also build user groups on topics such as child endangerment and terrorist gangs. The LexisNexis Investigators Network is the first in a series of innovations from Accurint for Law Enforcement, and customers have already started to find value.

“Sometimes I need more resources to resolve a problem. It's helpful to see what someone else has done in a similar situation,” said Tuwana Lee, a detective in the Offender Tracking Unit in Florida’s Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.  “If I'm stuck on an issue in my job, then I can click on a tab or go to a forum in the LexisNexis Investigators Network and ask if anyone has any ideas and get feedback.”

The Gartner report found that social networking tools are “not just for interaction with citizens but that they can also be leveraged to tap into the wisdom of the workforce to improve investigative processes.”

“Law enforcement organizations should expand social-media policies to cover usage as a tool for community communication, for investigative purposes and for personal use,” writes Jeff Vining, vice president, Government Research, Gartner in a different note called “How to Educate Police on their own Personal Use of Social Media,” published in April 2010.

“We’re pleased that Gartner has evaluated the LexisNexis Investigators Network,” said Haywood Talcove, chief executive officer, LexisNexis Special Services Inc., a trusted leader in enabling government agencies to transform data into mission critical decisions.

“The LexisNexis Investigators Network advances social networking for law enforcement professionals and helps to improve peer-to-peer collaboration. The network, combined with Accurint for Law Enforcement, already shows great promise in helping government and law enforcement agencies to interact with peers and compare investigative information.”
