LexisNexis Digital Library helps NYS create “smart libraries” with virtual access across every county May 12, 2015 — NEW YORK – LexisNexis® Legal & Professional, a leading provider of content and technology solutions, today announced that the New York State (NYS) Unified Court System (UCS)—which supports approximately 4,000 judges, chambers staffs, law departments, court clerks, court reporters, court interpreters, and administrative personnel as well as analysts and performance specialists—selected LexisNexis® Digital Library as the digital solution for its legal library reference materials and has been rolling out the services to its members since fall of 2014. With LexisNexis Digital Library, NYS UCS library users gain access to a comprehensive collection of critical reference resources, such as Matthew Bender, Shepard’s®, Michie publications and other LexisNexis products. eBook titles can be shared among multiple users across the State and downloaded to a variety of mobile devices and desktop platforms—offering a speedier and virtual circulation of all research materials for the courts throughout New York. LexisNexis Digital Library enables NYS UCS staff to purchase eBooks centrally and more smartly monitor its overall library collection, so they can manage distribution in a timely, efficient and economical manner via one central electronic platform. Pro se litigants (also known as “unrepresented litigants”) will benefit from the LexisNexis Digital Library through broadened, improved access to legal assistance via a unique, in-library solution that surfaces self-help resources for their use and shares those resources throughout the State. By law, a court law library must be made available in every county of the state to serve the public’s legal informational needs. LexisNexis Digital Library will support the NYS courts in their primary mission to promote the rule of law and serve the public by providing just and timely resolution of all matters before the courts. The NYS UCS Office of Court Administration also provides continuing legal education and reference assistance to more than 1,200 Town and Village courts, which handle more than two million cases annually and have broad jurisdiction, hearing both civil and criminal matters.
