Advance Sheets of Supreme Judicial Court and Appeals Court in e-Book Format

July 31, 2014 — NEW YORK – LexisNexis® Legal & Professional announced today that it has been named official publisher of the Massachusetts Reports, the Commonwealth's authoritative body of appellate decisions, including all opinions of the Supreme Judicial Court and published opinions of the Appeals Court.

By statute, the Reporter of Decisions of the Supreme Judicial Court and the Appeals Court awards the contract to publish the Official Reports to the publisher that best fulfills the interests of the Commonwealth. The assignment, which started on July 1, 2014, will run for three years.

“LexisNexis is delighted to publish the Official Reports of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts,” said Jeff Pfeifer, vice president, Primary Law, at LexisNexis. “Our expertise as the largest legal e-book publisher will make this important legal information easily accessible to a wider audience.”

In fact, as its official publisher, LexisNexis will help the Commonwealth enter the world of electronic publishing by offering, for the first time, an e-book version of its advance sheets, the official case law up until the point of the publication of the bound volume of the Official Reports.

The e-book version of the advance sheets will be accessible in most e-reader formats. Providing subscribers a cumulative view, with the opinions of each court in one location, the advance sheets in e-book format align with the print version and feature the same pagination to allow for citation to permanent page numbers.

LexisNexis will also provide fully searchable, free access to opinions of the Appeals Court and the Supreme Judicial Court, from 2001 to the present, as well as unpublished decisions of the Appeals Court issued from 2008 to the present.
