New Jersey Law & Education Empowerment Project Awarded LexisNexis Martindale-Hubbell Legal Fellowship
Funds Will Be Used to Bolster Interest in Law Among Urban High School Students May 21, 2008 — New York, NY, May 21, 2008 - LexisNexis today announced that it has awarded its LexisNexis® Martindale-Hubbell® Legal Fellowship to the New Jersey Law & Education Empowerment Project (NJ LEEP). NJ LEEP helps urban youth from underserved neighborhoods in northern New Jersey to perform at high academic levels by building skills through law-related, mathematical, and other educational programs. The program aids in developing the habits necessary for lasting success and community leadership, and offers exposure to role models who have achieved academic and professional success. NJ LEEP is part of the pipeline diversity effort, dedicated to increasing minority representation in the legal profession by introducing students to law and skill building at a young age.
A unique grant program that promotes education, the practice of public interest law and diversity in the legal profession, The LexisNexis Martindale-Hubbell Legal Fellowship awards two $15,000 grants each year – one in the summer and one in the winter - to individuals or organizations whose applications are selected by the company's Legal Fellowship committee. NJ LEEP plans to allocate its $15,000 award to support the Newark Legal Internship Program, which offers underserved Newark youth exposure to high quality professional environments, and gives them the confidence to imagine themselves with a professional career. The Newark Legal Internship Program will place 100 Newark High School Youth in law firms, corporate legal departments, and prosecutors’ offices in the summer of 2008.
Funding for the Legal Fellowship is generated by sales from the Martindale-Hubbell® Peer Review Ratings™ Acknowledgements program. As part of the company's exclusive alliance with Universal Recognition LLC, a wide range of products are available for attorneys with Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings who wish to showcase their professional standing. These include Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings crystal certificates, wall plaques and certificate marquees.
The deadline for the next fellowship is June 30, 2008, with the grant award to be announced in the summer. For more information or to complete and submit the application for a fellowship grant, please go to www.martindale.com/ratings and click on the "Fellowship" tab.
