June 1, 2010 — Horsham, Pa. — For the second consecutive year, IDG's CIO magazine today announced Reed Technology and Information Services Inc. (ReedTech.com), a LexisNexis® business headquartered in the Philadelphia metropolitan area, as a recipient of the 2010 CIO 100 award for its innovative information management solution for the pharmaceutical industry. The 23nd annual award program recognizes organizations around the world that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in information technology (IT).

The CIO 100 award recognizes Reed Tech for its design and implementation of an XML publishing composition system for creating print- and web-ready publishing content from Structured Product Labeling (SPL). SPL includes a prescription drug’s “Content of Labeling” that must be submitted to and approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in order for a drug to be marketed. Reed Tech’s system is designed to reduce publishing costs for pharma clients while increasing their operating efficiency. To improve customer content management and profitability, Reed Tech employs a highly automated publishing process to deliver FDA-compliant data for published materials.

The recipients of this year's CIO 100 award were selected through a three-step process. First, companies filled out an online application form detailing their innovative IT and business initiatives. Next, a team of judges reviewed the applications in depth, looking for unique practices and substantial results. Finally, CIO editors reviewed the judges' recommendations and voted on the final 100. Once the top 100 honorees were selected, several honorees were chosen to receive an additional special award. The recipients of this special award will be revealed at the CIO 100 awards ceremony in August.
