Ensure your summer employees are ready with the LexisNexis® Prepare to Practice program

A first job at a law firm can be a very rewarding and educational experience. It can also be overwhelming for summer or new associates who don’t have the necessary skills to complete their assignments.

Your firm is a fast-paced work environment that needs everyone functioning at a high level. The new members of your team should arrive on their first day ready to contribute. Give them the resources they need to be successful with the LexisNexis® Prepare to Practice program: on-demand and in-person training for law students who have secured summer employment positions.

We’ve designed rigorous training modules to help students know what to expect on the job. They’ll learn to quickly and thoroughly research unfamiliar topics, regulations and regulatory history, and write, prepare and find any legal document. Once they complete Practice-Ready Certification, your new employees will be added to this registry, so you know they are prepared for their first day.

Students will complete three modules and take an exam to become certified:

(1)       Instructional video and quiz: Researching an Unfamiliar Topic
(2)       Instructional video and quiz: Transactional and Litigation Drafting
(3)       Instructional video and quiz: Legal Analytics

It’s not enough to just be able to draft and research well. Your new associates will also have to attend social events and assimilate into your firm’s culture. The program also contains helpful tips and advice from former summer associates and partners on how to dress, communicate and behave like a lawyer.

Have your summer associates and new hires visit the Prepare to Practice site to get started. They can sign up for on-campus workshops, watch additional training videos and complete an interactive activity about the day in the life of a lawyer. We’ve prepared this letter template you can send to your new employees encouraging them to complete the program. If you have questions or need assistance, contact your LexisNexis representative.
