In Lexis+^® with Protégé™, AI assistance appears at several points in the workflow; whether that is evaluating a statute, reviewing an alert, comparing code versions, or asking focused questions about search results. For law librarians and information professionals, these tools can help reduce routine review time while keeping authoritative sources close at hand.

1. Quickly assess a statute with an AI-generated summary

Open a statute in Lexis+ and look for the AI-generated summary displayed in purple. The summary highlights the statute’s principal topics, key requirements, and the people or entities it targets, helping a researcher decide quickly whether the provision warrants closer review. Summaries are pre-populated for frequently used federal and state statutes; for other statutes longer than 2,500 characters, a summary may generate when the document is opened. When a current statute is amended, its summary updates automatically. Archived statutes do not receive summaries.

2. Triage caselaw alerts with Snapshot summaries

AI-generated Snapshot summaries place concise context alongside each new case that meets an alert’s criteria. They appear in email notifications and on the alert results page, allowing users to scan a long alert, identify the cases most likely to matter, and reserve deeper reading for the strongest results. Snapshot summaries are available for search, publication, topic, and entity alerts. Users who prefer not to receive AI-generated summaries can opt out through Lexis+ Settings.

3. Understand changes faster with Code Compare

Code Compare pairs the familiar redline view with an AI-generated summary of the differences between two document versions. Available for statutes, administrative codes, court rules, and bill text, the summary helps a researcher explain what changed before examining the precise language.

4. Add timely legal-news context with Law360^®

Protégé can incorporate Law360 legal news and analysis into its outputs, connecting developing events with AI-generated insights. A focused prompt should identify the user, topic, source and time period, desired format, and need for citations. For example:

5. Ask questions about a document or research results

The Ask Protégé button on the Legal Research results page lets users question the document they are viewing or the top results in the set. Responses include inline links to supporting Lexis+ authority for verification, and users can continue with follow-up questions in a multi-turn conversation of up to 10 exchanges.
