Modernizing Legal Workflows: A More Connected Lexis+ with Protégé Experience

August 27, 2026 (3 min read)

A Simpler, More Connected Lexis+® with Protégé™ Experience

Legal work rarely happens one task at a time. Research leads to drafting. Drafting surfaces new research questions. Reviewing a document can send a legal professional back to the underlying authority. And a question that starts out as legal research may turn into a broader business question. The work has always been connected. But the technology to do the work hasn’t. Until now.

Lexis+ with Protégé has entered a new era of more simplified, connected work.

Modernizing Legal Workflows with an Integrated AI Experience

Lexis+ with Protégé now brings both Legal AI and General AI into a single prompt experience. Users can ask legal and non-legal questions from the same place, while LexisNexis® content remains the default source for grounding responses. A Best Fit model is selected by default, and users can choose a different model when they want to. Web or International content can also be added from the prompt bar when appropriate. For users, this means fewer decisions at the start of an interaction. Rather than figuring out which experience to enter, they can start with what they need to accomplish.

That becomes particularly valuable as the nature of the work changes. A professional might begin with legal research, move into drafting, review a document and then need to address a broader business question. The merged experience is designed to support those activities without interrupting your workflow.

Connecting legal research, drafting and AI in one workflow

Protégé brings together models, content, agents and tools to support more connected, multi-step work. Specialized agents can handle different parts of an assignment, including legal research and drafting, while orchestration determines which capabilities should support a user's request. Within the new merged experience, users can:

  • Ask legal and non-legal questions from the same prompt bar
  • Select which large language model to use with LexisNexis defaulting to best fit, giving users access to the latest available models as soon as they pass testing
  • Include web or international content when appropriate
  •  Use specialized agents for tasks such as legal research and drafting
  • Complete more connected, multi-step work without moving between separate AI experiences

The result is less time spent managing the technology, and more time focusing on the substance of the work.

Maintaining control and transparency in AI-powered legal workflows

LexisNexis authoritative content remains the default, primary source for grounding outputs, providing legal citations, Shepard's® treatment where applicable, and source traceability. Users can see information about the models and content sources used in a response, along with linked citations and source attribution to help evaluate the supporting information.

Users also decide when additional sources should come into play. Web and International content must be actively selected, and organizational or matter-specific documents can be added through the prompt experience when relevant.

This balance is important for legal work: the experience can become easier to navigate without becoming less transparent or less controlled.

And while specialized agents can handle different parts of an assignment, the legal professional remains responsible for decisions and approvals.

How connected legal AI can support complex, multi-step workflows

The evolution of Lexis+ with Protégé reflects a broader change in what legal professionals can expect from AI. The simplified Protégé experience makes that easier to access: one prompt experience, fewer decisions at the outset and models and content options available from the same place.

This enhanced version of the platform makes more of the coordination possible behind the scenes, bringing together specialized capabilities to support research, drafting, and other multi-step work. That means less context switching, fewer unnecessary steps and a more consistent way to move through complex work. The result is a simpler experience on the surface, with more intelligence working behind it.

As AI continues to evolve, legal technology can do more than add new capabilities to individual tasks. It can bring those capabilities together in ways that better support the way professionals actually work.
