LexisNexis Legal & Professional has been an AI innovator for years, leveraging artificial intelligence technology, including natural language processing and machine learning in our legal solutions. Our focus is all about customer-driven innovation, using AI technology to help legal professionals work more efficiently and effectively. At the heart of this focus is the protection of our customers’ confidential data as our top priority.
Safeguarding sensitive data is critical in the legal industry. As a leading provider of legal technology and solutions, LexisNexis takes that responsibility seriously and makes it the foundation of all our work in the Legal AI space.
For example, our Lexis+ AI solution, which launched late last year and just passed its first SOC2 Type I audit with flying colors, was built with a development philosophy that ensures protection from the ground up. We employ in-depth countermeasures, including security processes and procedures, firewalls, secure networks, data encryption, and detailed logging and detection systems. We deploy these controls and safeguards while delivering best-in-class solutions and services to our customers. Our comprehensive data protection program ensures the safeguarding of our customers’ valuable data.
Moreover, our team adheres to a core set of five Responsible AI Principles established by RELX, our parent company, that provide clear guidance for how we go about developing products that deliver machine-driven insights to customers.
As AI becomes more integrated into legal services, law firms should always ensure client data is not at risk of being reviewed by unauthorized third parties by signing onto a leading general-purpose AI service. Vet technology providers and software partners thoroughly, negotiating appropriate confidentiality protections on behalf of customers where necessary.
At LexisNexis, we are vigilant in assessing our technology partners to prioritize data security and privacy, and this has always remained a key focus. Just one example of this includes working alongside our partner Microsoft to disable certain default monitoring features in Microsoft's AI services, Azure OpenAI Service Content Filter and Azure OpenAI Service Abuse Monitoring. Disabling this default feature for our customers ensures that neither Microsoft nor OpenAI can read or access our customers’ highly sensitive data and content. LexisNexis verifies monthly that these opt-outs remain in effect across all Microsoft subscriptions that utilize OpenAI, reflecting our commitment to safeguarding customers' data.
We’re excited about how our generative AI solutions are enabling transformative efficiencies and productivity for our customers. It will remain an imperative to rigorously put safeguards in place to protect customers’ sensitive data through top data security & privacy protocols. When this is effectively achieved, as we are doing with our solutions, the generative AI future continues to be bright.
