California enacted a bill (SB 177) directing the state’s Department of Finance to come up with options for employers with at least 250 workers enrolled in Medi-Cal, the state’s Medicaid program, to contribute to the cost of that coverage. Last month New Jersey became the first state to enact a law requiring employers to pay an annual fee for workers covered by Medicaid. Similar legislation was also introduced this year in Colorado, Oregon and Washington. (PLURIBUS NEWS, LEXISNEXIS STATE NET)
In an effort to address the state’s growing physician shortage, Iowa enacted a bill (SB 469) that will allow doctors age 60 and older to apply for an emeritus license, enabling them to continue practicing medicine while teaching and supervising medical residents.
