Last month Louisiana enacted a bill (SB 30) that will allow the prescription of GLP-1 weight-loss drugs like Ozempic, Wegovy and Zepbound via telehealth. For years, doctors in the state had been prohibited from treating obesity via telehealth by old regulations targeting the prescription of certain drugs, such as the appetite suppressant phentermine, a controlled substance. Doctors say that, because GLP-1 medications are not controlled substances, the ban is no longer needed, and Louisiana has the third-highest obesity rate in the nation. (ADVOCATE)
