"Teleconference Invitation
Listening Session on U Visas Wednesday, June 4, 2014 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. (Eastern) U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) invites you to participate in a stakeholder listening session on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. (Eastern) to discuss the law enforcement certification process for U nonimmigrant status (U visa) and changes being considered that would broaden the definition of a “certifying official.” USCIS is seeking feedback on a possible modification to the U visa regulations, which would give police chiefs, sheriffs, prosecutors, and other certifying agency heads the ability to designate other individuals as certifiers. Examples of such individuals would include: supervisors, subject matter experts, or other officials that the head of the agency deems to have significant training and experience on cases involving violence against women and special victims, and building relationships with the immigrant and limited English proficiency community. During the session, USCIS officials will listen to your feedback and input on how these changes may affect the law enforcement certification process for U visa petitions.
