Pro Bono Training on Immigration Court Representation; New Orleans, Feb. 1, 2012

"The ABA Section of Litigation’s Immigration Litigation Committee and the ABA Commission on Immigration are sponsoring Pro Bono Training: The Essentials of Immigration Court Representation [PDF] on Wednesday, February 1, 2012, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC, 201 St. Charles Ave., 36th Floor, New Orleans, Louisiana, 70170.  This training is recommended for attorneys seeking to represent individuals in immigration court or for those interested in immigration litigation pro bono opportunities. Invited faculty include Immigration Judge Wayne Stogner, Dree Collopy, Karen T. Grisez, Bob Juceam, Ken Mayeaux, and Mark J. Shmueli.  Topics covered during the training will include:

• an introduction to the immigration court;

• immigration court procedures, including detained cases;

• preparing for an asylum hearing;

• ethical issues in removal proceedings;

• representing noncitizens with criminal convictions;

• cancellation of removal and other forms of relief; and

• taking a case/mentoring role.

The program will cost $20 to attend. Morning coffee, a box lunch, and course materials are included in the cost. Please note that space for this program is limited. Seats will be given first come, first served.
