U.S. v. Windsor: Implications for International Students and Scholars and their Host Institutions

"On June 26, 2013, the Supreme Court of the United States held in U. S. v. Windsor that the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) is unconstitutional. The ruling will have implications for immigration benefits that derive from a marital relationship, and many questions have arisen about how to advise students and scholars in same-sex marriages and how to revise international office policies and practices to accommodate the ruling. This virtual brown-bag will provide a review of the decision, explore the implications, and describe two institutions’ approaches.
