HIGHLIGHTSGENERAL DATA• There are currently 1.05 million F & M students studying in the United States.• There are currently 244,766 J-1 exchange visitors in the United States.• There are 8,887 U.S. schools certified by SEVP to enroll international students.• Seventy-seven percent of SEVP-certified schools have 50 or less enrolled F & M students.• Seventy-four percent of all F & M students are enrolled in bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral programs.• There are 405,314 F & M students studying science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fieldsin the United States.• Thirty-eight percent of all F & M students in the United States are studying in STEM fields.• Seventy-five percent of all F & M STEM students are enrolled in engineering, computer and informationsciences and support services, or biological and biomedical sciences degree programs.• Twenty-four percent of all F & M students studying at schools in the state of Texas are from India, followed by17 percent from China.TRENDS• Compared to February 2015, the total number of active J-1 exchange visitors in the United States increased21.9 percent, from 200,779 exchange visitors in February 2015 to 244,766 exchange visitors in July 2015.• Compared to February 2015, the total number of active F & M students studying in the United Statesdecreased 6.9 percent, from 1,132,636 students in February 2015 to 1,054,505 students in July 2015.• Compared to February 2015, the total number of active F & M students studying in primary or secondaryprograms decreased 33.0 percent, from 65,518 students in February 2015 to 49,250 students in July 2015.
