Hempsons upgrades to LexisNexis dna to boost firm-wide productivity

October 28, 2010

Leading national health and social care law firm deploys fully-integrated business process management solution to streamline workflows and improve efficiency

October 28, 2010 — LONDON, 28th October 2010 – LexisNexis UK (www.lexisnexis.co.uk), a leading provider of contentenabled workflow solutions, today announced that Hempsons, a specialist health and social care law firm, has successfully implemented LexisNexis dna ® across the firm’s four offices in London, Manchester, Harrogate and Newcastle. A fully-integrated business process management solution, LexisNexis dna helps redefine workflows to maximise existing resources and deliver productivity gains across fee-earners and secretarial staff.

As a leading law firm advising public, private and third sector organisations, Hempsons needed a solution to help manage the ever demanding legislative and compliance requirements associated with these sectors. LexisNexis dna facilitates sustainable compliance by standardising and automating key business processes to ensure adherence to auditing standards and transparency, maintain client confidentiality, undertake client identity verification, and protect professional integrity.

The roll-out of LexisNexis dna began with the implementation of the time recording module, which records both client and firm time using an embedded clock in the dashboard. Ensuring that time is recorded, allocated to the correct matter and billed to the client is essential to the success of all law firms, however accurately monitoring time can be a challenge. With time recording from LexisNexis dna, monitoring time spent on client matters is simplified and users can work as they normally would, while the time is recorded and allocated automatically.

Janice Barber, Managing Partner, Hempsons commented: “The workflow capability of dna has enabled us to share best practices and customer service processes across the firm. Staff are guided through consistent legal and non-legal business processes, and a high level of service can be maintained across the firm.

Following the success of the time recording, Hempsons began the roll-out of LexisNexis dna’s workflow module to redefine business processes and streamline workflows to boost productivity across the firm. The solution, which can be fully integrated with Microsoft Word and Outlook, enables the creation of workflows associated with clients, staff and specific matters, saving time and ensuring compliance by standardising key business processes.

LexisNexis dna is built on a web-based architecture, which makes for a secure, yet flexible operating environment. The single integrated system incorporates legal accounting, time recording, billing automation, case, matter and document management, as well as contact and workflow capabilities to effectively run a multi-faceted law firm such as Hempsons. The solution is also browser based, with all the information centrally held, further lowering the total cost of ownership as IT maintenance and support costs are reduced.

Janice Barber continued: “From both a cost and a management point of view, it was important that the solution we chose offered a, single, integrated system able to handle various areas of our business. LexisNexis dna delivered on this requirement and has resulted in tangible productivity benefits thanks to the clearly defined workflows and simple time keeping system, which has been able to lower the total cost of ownership of our practice management software.”

Tim Cheadle, General Manager, Enterprise Solutions, LexisNexis UK commented: “Many firms are looking for software solutions that go beyond typical practice management to encompass areas such as workflow, matter, document and contact management to deliver added benefits. LexisNexis dna delivers an easy-to-use dashboard helping firms such as Hempsons increase productivity and profitability while lowering the overall total cost of ownership. We are pleased to see firms embracing technology and will continue to work closely with our customers to develop solutions that drive their businesses forward.”
