LexisNexis Adds Full-Text Patent Records from ‘BRIC’ Countries

May 10, 2010

Addition provides legal professionals access to patent information from 27 authorities worldwide for better, more informed intellectual property decision-making

May 10, 2010 — LexisNexis, a leading global provider of content-enabled workflow solutions, has added full-text patent records from ‘BRIC’ countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China) to its TotalPatent™ research service – extending its market leading position in patent research by offering information from 27 patent authorities worldwide, as well as bibliographic and abstract information from 96 authorities.

“The addition of records from ‘BRIC’ countries means that in an increasingly global business marketplace, patent law professionals now have access to full-text patent collections from more patent authorities worldwide through LexisNexis® than anywhere else,” said Peter Vanderheyden, LexisNexis vice president of Global Intellectual Property.  “This advantage will help customers make more informed decisions on patent and intellectual property issues for their companies or clients.”

TotalPatent is a patent research, retrieval and analysis solution offering the broadest and deepest collection of online first-level patent information available anywhere.  The new full-text records from the four BRIC countries are all searchable in machine-translated English.  Collectively, they represent an addition of 4.7 million full-text records, bringing the total number of accessible, full-text records to more than 40 million.  Of these, more than 80 percent are now searchable with English search terms.

TotalPatent users now have greater control over the patent research process thanks to an integration of semantic and Boolean search technology, which allows for a simple, streamlined user interface that matches their typical daily workflow.

The semantic search solution from LexisNexis, developed in alliance with Dallas-based PureDiscovery™, is setting a new standard in online patent research by cutting through the problem of information overload and enabling researchers to directly identify and access specific patent research they need.

“With semantic search technology, we raised the bar in patent research by providing users with new insights and intelligence, which essentially provide an additional means of researching patent and non-patent prior art,” said Vanderheyden.  “Customers can be confident they have access to the world's largest collection of searchable full-text and bibliographic patent databases, including images, citations, legal status and patent family collections.”
