LexisNexis expands e-discovery choices for corporations to include Atlas legal holds and collections software through an agreement with PSS Systems

Atlas LCC litigation communications and collections software enables corporations to confidently implement legal holds while reducing the burden of litigation

May 30, 2007 — Bellvue, WA, May 30, 2007 - LexisNexis, a leading provider of information and services solutions, and PSS Systems, the market leader in legal holds and document retention management software, today announced an agreement whereby the LexisNexis® Discovery Services group will offer PSS Systems’ Atlas LCC™ litigation communications and collections software to its corporate e-discovery clients.

The explosion of electronic information, the 2006 revisions to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and landmark decisions on discovery processes reached in the Zubulake case in 2003 and 2004 have made legal holds and document collection increasingly complex. As a result, corporate need for litigation process management tools has escalated.

With hundreds if not thousands of active litigation matters each year, complying with new requirements for electronic discovery can be a daunting and expensive task for most large companies, many of which are tracking thousands of employees, tens of thousands of hold notices, and often millions of files and documents collected for litigation in a myriad of spreadsheets.

To meet these challenges, leading companies across multiple industries use Atlas LCC for their preservation, hold notice, and collections practices because it consistently and reliably automates much of the legal holds and collections process. Companies using Atlas LCC also have greater control to quickly establish defensible, cost effective and sustainable processes such as identification of employees across the enterprise, determining which systems and locations are likely to have relevant data, notification to employees and IT staff over the course of litigation, interviewing those involved, monitoring for compliance, collecting from the variety of data sources needed for each litigation matter, and managing overlapping litigation.

“Atlas LCC is the benchmark technology for legal holds and collection workflow in corporate litigation groups, and we’re pleased to introduce it to our clients at a time when they’re struggling with the increasing complexities of document preservation and discovery,” said Scott Nagel, vice president of the LexisNexis Discovery Services group. “As we continue to expand our discovery offerings to offer corporate clients more choices and value, Atlas LCC for legal holds and collection management is an excellent complement to our desktop, hosted, online, consulting and forensics suite of products and services.”

Through the agreement, Atlas LLC joins the comprehensive portfolio of products and services offered by LexisNexis Discovery Services, including Concordance™, Applied Discovery® and Hosted FYI™ discovery products, as well as the group’s Strategic Records & Information Management consultancy and Data Collection & Forensics Services practice.

The agreement with PSS is an example of the LexisNexis Total Solutions strategy to help companies reduce litigation risk and cost through sound litigation management, as well as helping litigators win by offering them the most complete set of market leading tools and services.

“LexisNexis understands the challenges that corporate litigation executives face -- managing legal holds and internal collection efforts prior to review and production are a top priority.” said Deidre Paknad, CEO of PSS Systems. “This agreement is a natural extension of LexisNexis solutions for corporate counsel and one that benefits customers immediately.  It will help us strategically by extending Atlas LCC to more customers at a time when demand for our solutions is growing rapidly.”
