LexisNexis Introduces New Online Bankruptcy Law Center on lexis.com

October 13, 2008

Launch Coincides with National Spike in Demand for Bankruptcy Legal Work; Provides Valuable Web 2.0 Resources in Key Area of Practice for U.S. law firms

October 13, 2008 — New York, NY, October 13, 2008 - LexisNexis, a leading global provider of content-enabled workflow solutions, today announced the debut of its Bankruptcy Law Center, a comprehensive online practice center specifically designed to provide bankruptcy attorneys with legal content and information resources aligned with their daily workflow requirements.

The new center is accessible through the Lexis® Transactional Advisor section through lexis.com®. Its launch coincides with a spike in demand for bankruptcy legal work. According to the American Bankruptcy Institute, consumer bankruptcy filings increased by 31 percent in August over the same month last year, and Lawyers.comTM recently reported a sharp 37 percent increase in the number of consumer searches for bankruptcy attorneys during the second quarter of 2008, as compared to the same quarter a year ago.

Against this backdrop, the new Bankruptcy Law Center addresses the significant challenge faced by transactional attorneys of searching through multiple sources of information on the Web or elsewhere in order to find the information and analysis needed to perform their daily tasks.

"Bankruptcy attorneys are in particularly high demand right now, which puts a strain on the time they have available to research client issues, analyze emerging legal considerations, and draft the various documents that must be completed on deadline," said Allan McLaughlin, senior vice president of research, litigation and business information solutions for LexisNexis. "Our new Bankruptcy Law Center is aligned to the way that bankruptcy attorneys work and provides them with the useful resources they need, when they need them, so they can concentrate on doing what they do best - bringing their expertise and judgment to bear in counseling clients on their most attractive legal options."

The various information and resources available on the Bankruptcy Law Center are grouped and accessed from a single, integrated online destination that arranges content and services along each stage of the transactional workflow, such as:

  • Track emerging issues - e.g., pending bankruptcy legislation;
  • Interview and counsel client - e.g., Collier Consumer Bankruptcy Practice Guide;
  • Manage client relationship - e.g., attorney compensation;
  • Perform due diligence - e.g., SmartLinx® Person Summary Reports;
  • Research bankruptcy issues - e.g., USC bankruptcy titles;
  • Draft schedules, motions and plans - e.g., sample disclosure statements and consumer forms;
  • File - e.g., electronic filing resources; and
  • Litigation - e.g., research on judges, attorneys and other parties.

Beyond legal content and tools, the center is also an interactive destination for bankruptcy attorneys, offering them a variety of other activities and resources tailored specifically to the practice of bankruptcy law. Such items include news headlines, blogs, information on events, podcasts, updates on relevant industry "movers and shakers," and more.

Pricing to access content from the new Bankruptcy Law Center on Lexis Transactional Advisor varies depending on the law firm's existing LexisNexis subscription agreement. For more information, please go to www.lexisnexis.com/bankruptcycenter.
