LexisNexis launches “FRCP Watch” capabilities to help lawyers

May 22, 2007

Suite of services delivers updated case law, information and analysis on e-discovery issues relevant to Federal Rules of Civil Procedure

May 22, 2007 — Bellevue, WA, May 22, 2007 - With June 1 marking six full months since implementation of new amendments to Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP) for e-discovery, LexisNexis, a leading provider of information and services solutions, today announces the launch of FRCP Watch, – a coordinated suite of resources providing continually updated case law, news and information related to e-discovery and the rules to help attorneys gain better control over the use of them and a better understanding of their impact on the practice of law.

Because the overwhelming majority of documentation today is digital, electronic discovery of documents is part of virtually all litigation. Therefore, changes to the federal rules enacted late last year mandate discussion and early agreement on e-discovery matters by litigating parties in cases in federal court.

“Over the past six months, corporations and their law firms have grappled with the new federal rules relating to electronically stored information, attempting to both comply with them and leverage them as part of litigation strategy,” said Courtney Ingraffia Barton, vice president of industry relations for LexisNexis® Applied Discovery®.  “With our new FRCP Watch resources, litigators can be confident they have the most up-to-date information on the new e-discovery rules in order to truly make them part of litigation planning.”

FRCP Watch is accessible via the Applied Discovery web site and features:

• Updated case summaries and info online – case summaries relevant to the new rules are summarized and posted online at the home of FRCP Watch at:
 http://www.lexisnexis.com/applieddiscovery/lawlibrary/caseSummariesByRules.asp

• Cases flagged– Applied Discovery has “flagged” cases influenced by the changes to the FRCP within its online law library for easy identification and reference.

• Monthly Applied Discovery case summary alerts – these regular alerts now feature a special FRCP Watch section that updates relevant cases, offers case summary analysis by LexisNexis litigation experts and provides links to relevant documents.

• Links and access via The Discovery Standard newsletter – subscribers of the online newsletter, The Discovery Standard™, will receive highlights and the newest information on FRCP. Subscribers can directly access the FRCP Watch section

FRCP Watch is also part of the Applied Discovery online law library and is available to the public free of charge. Launched in 2000, the law library was the first of its kind, and now features more then 700 cases related to e-discovery.

FRCP Watch and the entire Applied Discovery law library are accessible free and online at Applied Discovery and via the Discovery tab at LexisNexis Total Litigator – a single online destination offering attorneys the tools and litigation support services needed to manage cases at each step of the litigation process.

FRCP Watch resource is an example of the LexisNexis® Total Practice Solutions strategy of helping litigators win by offering them the most complete selection of litigation support services available.

Applied Discovery and other discovery products and services from LexisNexis, including Concordance and Hosted FYI, are available individually and through LexisNexis Total Litigator - a single online destination offering attorneys the tools and litigation support services needed to manage cases at each step of the litigation process.
