May 07, 2008

LexisNexis to Support Democratic and Republican National Conventions, Introduces LexisNexis® Campaign 2008 on Nexis® as a One-Stop News Source for U.S. Election Coverage

May 7, 2008 — New York, NY, May 7, 2008 - Delivering credible, up-to-date and targeted information about this year’s U.S. presidential election, LexisNexis®, a leading global provider of business information solutions, today shared trend data on searches conducted by LexisNexis subscribers for the three main presidential candidates – Senator Hillary Clinton, Senator Barack Obama and Senator John McCain.

Of the three current Presidential front-runner candidates, Senator Clinton is consistently the most-searched-for candidate each week.  Senator Obama is the second most-searched-for candidate, while searches for Senator McCain have started to increase since the beginning of the year.

Using the Nexis® service, LexisNexis analyzed the data by week against news stories and found:

  • Searches for Senator McCain increased the week of April 20 over the previous week, as he started his “It’s Time for Action Tour”

  • Searches for Senator Clinton reached one of the highest points the week of April 13, one week before the Pennsylvania primary

  • Searches for Senator Obama reached its pinnacle the week of Feb. 17, corresponding to four straight primary wins from Feb. 12 through Feb. 19

  • Searches for Senator McCain reached its pinnacle the week of Feb. 17 – the same week that Senator McCain won the Washington and Wisconsin state primaries (Feb. 19)

  • Searches for Senator Obama started to increase steadily after he won the Iowa Caucus on Jan. 3 through the week of Feb. 17

  • Searches for Senator Clinton reached its pinnacle the week of Nov. 25, 2007, the same week a man claiming to have a bomb entered one of Sen. Clinton’s New Hampshire campaign field offices on Friday, Nov. 30

LexisNexis will serve as an information resource at both the Democratic and Republication National Conventions.  Since 1980, LexisNexis has been an online information service provider at the Democratic and Republican Conventions, participating in the media operations and providing in-depth research support for journalists and other attendees.

At the LexisNexis resource center at the Conventions, LexisNexis experts will be on-hand to help journalists with a variety of inquiries, like researching candidate-related stories, speaker backgrounds, and candidate mentions and trends.
