New LexisNexis Academic Brings Easy-to-Use, Professional-Strength Features to Academic Market

June 11, 2007

The newly redesigned interface empowers students and librarians to find the right information faster

June 11, 2007 — New York, NY, June 11, 2007 - LexisNexis, a leading provider of information and services solutions, today announced a major redesign of its popular LexisNexis® Academic product in conjunction with the American Library Association meeting in Washington, D.C., from June 23 to June 27, 2007. Based on input from hundreds of academic librarians, LexisNexis made the decision to move Academic to the same technology platform as the Nexis® service to provide the same professional-strength search functionality available to government and corporate users.

“We have worked closely with our Academic users – both librarians and students – for more than two years on this upgrade and redesign,” said Tim Fusco, vice president of Publishing Operations for LexisNexis Government and Academic Markets. “We took their valuable input and incorporated it into our popular Nexis service interface to create an easier way for our customers to access the largest database of information available today.  We are pleased with the result of this collaboration and believe that our customers will be too.”

The new search interface makes it easier for users of all levels to get precise search results. It supports natural language searching and relevance ranking, as well as the precise LexisNexis search commands that have become a benchmark for information retrieval performance. LexisNexis’ SmartIndexing Technology™, has been integrated throughout the new service to organize both sources and documents, and is incorporated in the new Results Clustering feature that allows users to group their results by publication type, subject, geographic region, and language.

Other highlights of the new LexisNexis Academic include:

• Enhanced Support for Article Linkers, e-Journals
   Services, and Federated Search
makes LexisNexis content more accessible than ever before to all types of users.

• Expanded Shepard’s® Citation Service now covers all
  federal and state courts.

• Powerful source selection offers searches by type,
language, topic, geography, and other facets.

• Support for RefWorks Bibliographic Software means
that users can now export citations to their RefWorks
  account.

• Flexible Display and Output Options allows for printing,
emailing and downloading of results, and users can choose
to receive results in an expanded or simple list, and can
sort the result set by date or relevancy.

• Company Dossier for LexisNexis Academic, formerly a
premium add-on service, is now provided to all subscribers.
It offers access to premier business sources for accurate
information about more than 46 million U.S. and
international companies, combined with relevant documents
from LexisNexis news and legal libraries to quickly deliver
information in one report that would typically require more
than 70 searches using traditional methods.
