Bread & Butter Budget, but has the Treasurer closed the Budget deficit gap

For many in government, the Federal Budget Day – typically held on the second Tuesday of May – is easily the biggest day of the year. This is when the government outlines its revenue and spending plans for the financial year ahead, with wide-ranging implications across both, the private and public sectors.

A year on since taking office, the Albanese Government's 2nd Budget walked a thin line between sensibility and generosity, unveiling measures designed to grow the Australian economy, resist global financial shocks, and support the vulnerable through hardship.

This year, like every year, the Capital Monitor team attended the Media Budget Lock-Up on Tuesday 9th May to create a comprehensive brief sifting through the detail direct from Parliament in Canberra. For 33 years, Capital Monitor has informed subscribers from all walks of life to parliamentary, political, legislative, regulatory, and judicial news and information as it happens, capturing Australian Government Budget releases since it opened its doors in January 1990. Historical Budget information is stored within year-by-year microsites containing Papers, Treasurer Speeches, Fact Sheets, Budget Portfolio Statements and much more for easy search and retrieval via the website.

A Budget Week to remember, this year the Federal Budget coincided with the Northern Territory and Western Australia also releasing their Budgets on Tuesday, 9th and Thursday, 11th of May, respectively.

To top it all off, Australian Parliament House celebrated 35 years since its opening on Monday, 8th May, click here to read more.
