Lexis+ AI is a fully integrated, AI legal solution grounded in the largest repository of authoritative and exclusive legal content. It combines the power of AI with proprietary search technology to help legal professionals produce next-level work product and make informed decisions faster.

Protégé is the personalised generative and agentic AI assistant within Lexis+ AI that powers conversational search, insightful summarisation, intelligent legal drafting, and document upload and analysis capabilities. It’s tailored to each user’s preferences and can leverage both LexisNexis content and the user’s own documents. All Lexis+ AI users will now benefit from seamless access to the Protégé personalised AI assistant as a powerful new feature.

Lexis+AI includes the Protege Legal AI and Protege General AI features that users can toggle between. We regionalise hosting of our customers’ Legal AI documents, conversations and prompts to ensure that they are stored in the Australian region. General AI is currently not hosted in Australia as it draws upon a number of LLM’s that are not locally hosted.  The same security and privacy guardrails are still maintained for General AI.

Protégé is designed with robust privacy and security measures in place to protect sensitive client information and ensure compliance with relevant data protection regulations. Users can review and manage their personalisation settings at any time, allowing them to adjust the level of personalisation or opt out entirely if desired. Furthermore, the data they share is not used to inform performance for other users. By putting the user in control and providing transparency around data access and personalisation settings, Protégé aims to strike a balance between leveraging the power of AI personalisation to enhance legal services and maintaining the highest standards of privacy, security, and user autonomy.

LexisNexis has always emphasised two critical AI development tenets: users are in control of personalisation, and data they share is not used to inform performance for other users. With Protégé, customers decide which personalisation services are enabled and whether personal work product is used to answer questions or draft documents. Lexis+ AI uses private models, and no third party has access to it. User sessions are also secure, meaning that the input from one Lexis+ AI user does not bleed into the output of another (to preserve client confidentiality). Our models are hosted in protected accounts in commercial-grade cloud infrastructure, so we can manage performance and security.

Users can upload a collection of securely saved documents to a personal repository called a Vault. Protégé uses the documents stored in your Vault as the source for AI-powered tasks such as generating timelines, finding citations, analysing counterarguments, or drafting documents. Protégé will also suggest tasks based on the documents uploaded to the Vault, further guiding your work.​


• Create up to 50 Vaults with 1-500 documents per Vault. All data is securely stored and encrypted.​
• Uploading 11 or more documents automatically prompts you to create a Vault. Vaults are retained until you decide to delete them, and you can add/remove documents from your Vault at any time.​
• Uploads up to 10 documents, not saved to a Vault, are automatically purged at the end of each session.​
• Responses from Protégé Vault are retained for 90 days under "My Conversations" history.

General AI is AI that is not optimised for strict legal requirements. It can perform general-purpose tasks extremely well, such as drafting communications, structuring information, or analysing text. General AI is a useful tool for legal professionals, as it can help them supplement legal research, drafting, and analysis.​

​Protégé now brings the power of General AI to the secure Lexis+ AI environment, so legal professionals can draft with greater control, explore broader topics, and tackle complex problems without leaving their trusted legal workflow.  Users can now choose from multiple configurations to suit to their needs.

Protégé now offers Legal AI, GPT-4o, OpenAI o3, GPT-5, and Claude Sonnet 4 configurations in Lexis+ AI.  ​

• Legal AI is optimised for legal accuracy and blends multiple LLMs from leading providers for the best legal use-case. The multi-model configuration grounds all responses in LexisNexis content and includes CaseBase's citations.​
• GPT-4o is an OpenAI general-purpose model, known for its speed, natural tone, and broad capabilities. In this configuration, users can access web search capabilities and CaseBase's citation checks.  Responses are not grounded in LexisNexis content.​
• OpenAI o3 is OpenAI’s well-rounded and powerful reasoning model. It excels in math, science, coding, visual reasoning, technical writing, and instruction-following. In this configuration, users can access web search capabilities, Deep Research capabilities, and CaseBase’s citation checks. Responses are not grounded in LexisNexis content.​
• GPT-5 is OpenAI’s flagship model, released in August 2025. In Protégé, the GPT-5 model is best for responses that require deep analytical thinking to support complex questions, strategic exploration, and refining arguments. In this configuration, users can access web search capabilities, Deep Research capabilities, and CaseBase’s citation checks. Responses are not grounded in LexisNexis content.  ​
• Claude Sonnet 4 is Anthropic’s mid-tier Claude 4 model, optimized for speed, efficiency, long context reasoning, and precise instruction following. In Protégé, the Sonnet 4 configuration is best for producing thoughtful and well-structured responses to support everyday tasks, communication such as emails, business development, and brainstorming. In this configuration, users can access web search capabilities and CaseBase’s citation checks. Responses are not grounded in LexisNexis content.
