AI and the Future of Work

Is generative AI a tool, a colleague, or a risk? Our global research report, featuring insights from over 1,400 professionals across 20+ industries, examines how quickly organisations are adopting generative AI and whether their AI governance, policies, and training keep pace.

What’s in the 2026 LexisNexis Future of Work report?

While 82% of surveyed professionals recognise the potential benefits of AI, organisational training and policy frameworks are often lagging behind adoption. The report highlights three critical consequences of this gap and outlines practical actions organisations can take today to manage AI risk while unlocking its value.

Policy or no policy, AI is still being used

Employees are not waiting for organisations to provide approved generative AI tools. When official solutions are unavailable, many professionals turn to personal AI tools or unapproved platforms, creating governance and security challenges.

Overconfidence can increase risk

Many professionals believe they are using generative AI responsibly. However, our research suggests that some users underestimate the data security and compliance risks associated with personal or unapproved AI tools.

Access to AI training varies widely

Many organisations limit AI training to specific teams or departments. This can create an uneven understanding of AI risks and capabilities across the workforce, leading to inconsistent adoption and governance.

One of the defining shifts of 2026 is the move from asking “Can generative AI do this?” to asking “Should we trust how it does this — and are we properly protected?”

Download the report to explore how your organisation may be exposed to risk if AI governance, policies and training frameworks are not clearly defined.

Employees want clearer AI policy

Employees are increasingly expected to use generative AI tools, yet only 23% of surveyed professionals report receiving mandatory AI training. Even among professionals who feel confident using AI tools, trust in the accuracy and reliability of outputs varies significantly.

“We are expected to use it, yet there are no guidelines for its use or demonstrative value that makes its use worthwhile.”
