Hsiang Low
General Counsel and Director of Operations
Riverchain
Overseeing the legal and operations functions at Riverchain, Hsiang Low has been instrumental in leading financial product structuring and liquidity management for the Riverchain, a fintech company which provides subcontractors with efficient short-term financing solutions in the construction space through receivable factoring. Its mission is to foster a sustainable future in the construction space via the use of its proprietary alternative data and innovative technologies.
At Riverchain, Hsiang also spearheads the initiatives to incorporate technology into the business process. He introduced digital solutions and contract automation which enabled Riverchain to process financing offers as quickly as 48hrs. This is unprecedented and of critical significance to the construction industry, which has traditionally faced challenges of back-to-back payments, leading to long receivable tenors where SME subcontractors bear the end of the brunt. This has also been widely covered and recognised in local news publications to be of immense importance in optimising the local construction industry’s capital flow.
Prior to joining Riverchain, Hsiang was a structured finance lawyer at Linklaters for over 10 years, where he worked in both the UK and Asian offices advising on a spectrum of transactions related to structured finance, derivatives, securitisations, and loan portfolio acquisitions. During his time at Linklaters, he was also part of the founding team of Linklaters > nakhoda (now CreateIQ), co-heading its Asia-Pacific operations and strategy to deploy cutting-edge technological solutions in the legal space. This included the development and launch of the award-winning platform, ISDA Create, an online negotiation platform for the derivatives industry to automate and streamline high volumes of sensitive and complex contractual negotiations. After leaving Linklaters, Hsiang joined SeedLegals, a legal-tech platform that automates the legal process for early-stage startups.
Beyond his work, Hsiang is passionate about legal technology and hopes to introduce innovations and disruption into the legal industry. Hsiang is also committed to supporting entrepreneurs by sharing his 15+ years of legal and startup experience. He regularly speaks at industry events and gives training on topics of legal technology, entrepreneurship and innovation to founders, students and professionals.
